The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance has set an all-party meeting for November 2 to address concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-2 announced by the Election Commission. Earlier today, DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired a key consultation in Chennai's Anna Arivalayam on the same topic.
Lasting an hour from 6 pm, the meeting led to the decision for broader consultation owing to monsoon-induced practical challenges. In a social media post, CM Stalin highlighted the difficulty of executing the SIR exercise during the torrential months of November and December.
Stalin criticized the Election Commission for allegedly orchestrating the exercise in an "opaque manner" to favor the BJP, suggesting it undermines voter rights. Citing Bihar's experience, he pointed out the alleged mass removal of women, minorities, and marginalized communities from electoral rolls as a concern.
Stalin stated that Tamil Nadu would resist any threats to voting rights, emphasizing democracy's foundational nature. The upcoming all-party meeting aims to strategize the state's response. The Election Commission plans to conduct SIR Phase-2 across 12 regions, with the final voter list set for release on February 7, 2026.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, in a New Delhi briefing, confirmed the inclusion of states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and West Bengal in the revision, indicating a nationwide effort. The sequence features a training segment until November 3 and extends through several phases until February 2026, with transparency and accountability remaining pivotal concerns.
