Sushma Andhare, a Shiv Sena leader, drew attention on Monday to the alleged suicide of a female doctor in Maharashtra's Satara district, suggesting a deeper conspiracy behind the incident. The 28-year-old doctor from Beed was discovered hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan, alleging rape and harassment in a note on her palm.
In her statement, Andhare questioned the circumstances surrounding the doctor's death, including the validity of the suicide note, purportedly written under duress. She highlighted the involvement of police sub-inspector Gopal Badane and software engineer Prashant Bankar, both of whom were arrested, and pointed a finger at former BJP MP Ranjit Naik Nimbalkar for a potential cover-up.
Nimbalkar, through his attorney, issued a defamation notice to Andhare after she accused him of various crimes, including coercion and involvement in the doctor's death. He demands a public apology and Rs 50 crore in damages, while threatening legal action if his conditions are not met.
