Elite athletes, led by Brazilian soccer player Tamires Dias, launch Adapt2Win to combat climate change. Supported by global figures like NBA's DeAndre Jordan and England's Raheem Sterling, the campaign calls for increased investment in climate adaptation. The initiative highlights climate's impact on sports and grassroots resilience efforts.
Elite athletes have taken a stand against climate change with the launch of a new global campaign, Adapt2Win, set to be highlighted at the COP30 summit in Brazil next month. Spearheaded by Brazilian soccer player Tamires Dias, the initiative seeks to draw attention to the urgent need for climate adaptation measures.
Backed by influential figures such as NBA player DeAndre Jordan and Olympic swimmer David Popovici, the campaign urges governments to prioritize funding for climate adaptation. A powerful film illustrating the devastating effects of climate change on sports venues will be presented at the summit.
The release of Adapt2Win coincides with alarming statistics showing $417 billion in climate-related damages in 2024. Despite these losses, less than 10% of global climate finance targets adaptation. The campaign seeks to amplify grassroots efforts worldwide, emphasizing that sectors from sports to business can spearhead transformative change.
