Tamil Nadu, including its capital Chennai, is experiencing heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Montha, currently positioned in the Bay of Bengal. The imminent storm, anticipated to make landfall on October 28 between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, has put the state on high alert.
Officials have assured citizens of the government's preparedness to tackle the cyclone's impact, with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin affirming the state's readiness despite forecasts of no severe aftermath. Measures include inspecting rain-prone areas and releasing surplus water from reservoirs to mitigate flooding.
Fishermen have been cautioned against entering the storm-burdened waters off Tamil Nadu's coast. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued heavy rainfall warnings for multiple districts and advised vigilance as the storm approaches, bringing potential winds of up to 110 kmph.
