As Cyclone Montha edges closer to the eastern coast, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to take swift action to protect lives and reduce damage in threatened coastal areas, according to a government release on Monday.

During a teleconference from the RTGS Centre, Naidu urged district collectors and superintendents of police to 'evacuate residents from high-risk zones to rehabilitation centres without delay.' He highlighted the necessity of providing quality food and safe drinking water at these centers and ordered the appointment of special officers to supervise operations. Naidu stressed the avoidance of water contamination, allocating district collectors full responsibility for cyclone relief activities, including vigilance on breaches to tanks and irrigation channels. Precautionary measures have already commenced, reported Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla, in anticipation of unrelenting rains.

The Chief Minister emphasized vigilance among officials to improve drainage and forestall flooding, calling for a comprehensive plan to manage Cyclone Montha's challenges. With the storm expected to intensify, the state has mobilized resources and emergency services strategically. Naidu assured that 'efforts are focused on safeguarding lives and minimizing disruptions.'

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts Cyclone Montha will intensify into a 'Severe Cyclonic Storm' (SCS) and impact the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam by the evening of October 28. To facilitate rescue and rapid response, 11 NDRF and 12 SDRF teams, along with Fire Services and medical support, are prepped with essential equipment across coastal regions.

For swift relief operations, the government has authorized TR-27 fund withdrawals, covering rescue, evacuation, and other necessary services, ensuring additional financing for severely affected districts. The region braces for Montha's looming arrival, with comprehensive measures in place.
