Amidst a devastating fireworks accident in Thrissur that claimed 13 lives, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is advocating for tightened regulations on firecrackers, including a gradual ban.
The IMA's state unit cited recurrent mishaps nationwide, emphasizing the critical lapses in enforcing safety norms and urged the government to impose strict manufacturing and storage standards. They called for rigorous enforcement of licenses and restrictions on firecracker usage during gatherings.
Additionally, the association encouraged the promotion of laser shows and cultural events as safer alternatives. Despite existing regulations, the IMA criticized the weak enforcement and stressed the urgency for robust compliance.
