A special NIA court in Bengaluru has sentenced Arafath Ali, a key figure in the terror outfit ISIS, to six years of rigorous imprisonment. Ali, a resident of Shivamogga, Karnataka, was convicted for his role in radicalizing youth and disseminating violent terrorist ideology across India.

Ali fled the country in January 2020 to evade arrest but was apprehended in September 2023 upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. As an active member of the banned organization, he played a crucial role in radicalizing and recruiting young individuals into the Shivamogga ISIS terror module.

During the investigation, the NIA discovered that Ali was involved in instigating enmity among different religious groups and promoting unrest through inflammatory graffiti and funding activities via cryptocurrency. His conviction follows the arrest of two others in the same case, with the trial against nine remaining accused still underway.
