On Tuesday, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) stripped the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) of its recognition, citing violations of legal and administrative requirements. This decision follows the resignation of two senior players from the national camp, who cited inadequate facilities and political interference in team selection.

In response to this crisis, the FIVB established a steering committee in collaboration with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to safeguard the sport within the country. The committee's duties include overseeing athlete welfare, aligning VFI's governance with legal standards, and improving national team selection transparency.

While VFI disputes allegations of coercion, the FIVB insists that their intervention aims to stabilize Indian volleyball. To that end, the FIVB has committed $258,000 in 2026 for athlete support, emphasizing their dedication to fostering a transparent future for the sport in India.
