Assam's Festive Gift: Free LPG Cylinders for Bihu and Durga Puja
Assam's Chief Minister announced the state will distribute a free LPG cylinder to its residents during Bihu and Durga Puja festivals. However, it remains unclear if this applies to all Assamese people or selected groups. The move comes amid potential fuel shortages due to regional conflicts and limited local production.

In a festive gesture, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Saturday that the state government will be issuing a complimentary LPG cylinder to locals during the Bihu and Durga Puja celebrations.
At an election rally in the Mahmora constituency of Charaideo district, Sarma pledged an eventual increase to two free cylinders per family during these festivals, though he did not specify whether all residents or particular demographics would benefit from this initiative.
The announcement follows a March statement by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, highlighting local refineries’ limited capacity and potential cooking fuel shortages due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The state assembly election is scheduled for April 9, with results expected on May 4.
