As tension escalates in West Asia, the Indian Government has initiated significant measures to manage the impact on the domestic market. Over 3,700 raids have been carried out nationwide to combat the black marketing of LPG, with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas spearheading efforts to assure smooth supply chains.
The government has mandated surprise inspections by Public Sector Undertaking Oil Marketing Companies (PSU OMCs) to deter hoarding and illicit sales. A thousand show-cause notices have been issued to LPG distributors, and 27 distributorships stand suspended. The public is advised against panic buying while being encouraged to explore alternative fuels.
The government emphasizes strict energy conservation and prioritizes the essential supply of LPG and PNG to households and institutions despite geopolitical disruptions. Efforts include enhanced allocation of coal and PNG facilitation, maintaining steady petroleum flow with the help of LNG vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz and safeguarding Indian seafarers.
