Unseasonal Weather Patterns Wreak Havoc in North India

The higher regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir were blanketed with fresh snowfall as a wave of wet weather swept through north India. This phenomenon brought rainfall to parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with ongoing intermittent rain and hailstorms. Wheat farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan face substantial losses due to crop damage.

In Jammu and Kashmir, snowfall disrupted transportation by closing essential inter-district roads. The Met Office issued warnings of potential flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. Higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh also reported recent snowfall and decreasing temperatures, with the Shimla Meteorological Office issuing alerts for upcoming adverse weather events.

Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is set to affect regions of Rajasthan, with forecasts of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called for immediate financial aid for farmers hit by the adverse weather. The weather department predicts that temperatures will remain cooler than usual across the country.
