Thol Thirumavalavan, founder of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), announced his withdrawal from the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, prioritizing the unity of the DMK alliance. Initially, Thirumavalavan nominated himself from Kattumannarkoil but reversed his decision amid speculation and rumors.

Addressing these narratives at a press briefing, Thirumavalavan stated that his withdrawal aims to uphold the alliance's integrity. He also clarified the replacement of three legislators was strategic, not a bias towards the DMK, and emphasized the upcoming elections' critical nature due to the rising influence of right-wing forces.

VCK, which supports the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, is contesting eight seats in the upcoming elections on April 23. Thirumavalavan assured continued efforts to strengthen the alliance, dismissing divisive rumors and external pressures.
