A substantial haul of soft drinks was intercepted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) along the India-Nepal border, sparking questions about smugglers' increasing brazenness and lax border checks.
The operations that ensued on Thursday night led to the interception of a vehicle loaded with 1,575 bottles of soft drinks, each containing 2.25 liters. These drinks apparently belonged to Pintu Pradhan, as revealed by the driver during the aftermath of a botched attempt to evade border security at the BIT check post in Rupaidiha.
In a separate event, the SSB patrol caught smugglers trying to transport two LG-brand split air conditioners on bicycles near Border Pillar Number 656. Officials apprehended one smuggler, Munnu, who faced immediate transfer of the seized items to the Customs Department while his accomplice managed to escape.
