In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) successfully intercepted attempts to illegally transport goods across the India-Nepal border in Bahraich. The operations led to the recovery of over 1,500 bottles of soft drinks, along with air conditioners smuggled on bicycles.
The first incident occurred during a routine inspection at the BIT check post in Rupaidiha when SSB troops signaled a vehicle to stop, carrying 1,575 bottles of soft drinks without valid customs documentation. The driver attempted a dramatic escape but was ultimately intercepted, revealing the goods belonged to one Pintu Pradhan.
In a separate operation, the SSB patrol team seized two LG-brand split air conditioners being smuggled into Nepal on bicycles. While one smuggler, identified as Munnu, was apprehended, others managed to evade capture. All confiscated items were subsequently handed over to the Customs Department.
