In a significant operation, officials in Maharashtra have dismantled an LPG smuggling syndicate in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The crackdown resulted in the seizure of assets valued at over Rs 1.26 crore.
Conducted by the Maharashtra State Level Vigilance Cell, the raid occurred in the Khojewadi Shivar area on April 2. Led by Ganesh Bellale, authorities intercepted the smugglers red-handed breaching the seals on HPCL tankers to siphon gas into smaller cylinders.
This operation highlights ongoing issues with illegal fuel trade, especially significant amidst the current energy crisis exacerbated by disruptions in West Asia. The government has vowed strict penalties for those caught hoarding or reselling LPG illegally.
