Nearly a year after a serious administrative oversight, six Indian badminton players are still waiting for promised participation certificates from the World University Games. An error by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) led to only half a selected 12-member squad competing in Germany.

The AIU's inquiry into the incident resulted in the suspension of its joint secretary, Baljit Singh Sekhon. While those who competed returned with a bronze medal, those excluded from competition remain unrecognized due to missing official records, according to the athletes.

The Sports Ministry issued a show cause notice to the AIU for its failure in managing athlete participation effectively. AIU Secretary General Pankaj Mittal expressed hopes of resolving the issue with international sports authorities.
