Three-Decade Wait for Justice: Kashmir Family's Struggle for Compensation

For over three decades, a Kashmiri family has awaited compensation for their property damaged in a militancy incident on December 7-8, 1992. The family's quest for justice has now reached the Central Information Commission, with the second generation seeking clarity on the fate of the relief funds.

Pran Nath, the appellant, has revealed that their property, including a multi-storey house and outbuildings, was destroyed. Despite assurances, no compensation has been received. Records indicate a sanctioned relief of Rs 44,500, which remains undistributed according to official communication.

The family's pursuit began with late Shiv Ji Sharma and continues with his descendants. Chief Information Commissioner Raj Kumar Goyal emphasizes the need for evidence from the PIO, DC Anantnag, to resolve the case. The absence of the official has stalled key determinations.
