Delhi Revamps Animal Welfare with New SPCAs Across Districts
The Delhi government will form Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs) across its 13 districts. Led by district magistrates, these SPCAs will operate under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to improve the implementation of animal protection laws and enhance animal welfare in the capital.

The Delhi government has announced the establishment of Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs) in each of its 13 districts, aimed at boosting animal welfare initiatives.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this move follows district reorganization, intending to improve the effectiveness of animal protection laws. The SPCAs, led by district magistrates, will operate under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, involving experts and animal welfare advocates.
The chief minister asserted that these panels will expedite the resolution of animal cruelty cases and improve on-ground coordination and monitoring. The Animal Welfare Board will oversee the initiative at the state level. Gupta reaffirmed the government's dedication to make Delhi more sensitive and accountable to animal welfare needs.
