The Varanasi district court has postponed its ruling on a petition concerning the Gyanvapi mosque's wuzukhana until November 10. The plea seeks to replace a deteriorated cloth tied over a sealed lock, following a consensus between Hindu and Muslim parties.
Lawyer Madan Mohan Yadav, representing Hindu petitioners, confirmed that District Court Judge Sanjiv Shukla requested both parties' consent, leading to the order's deferral. The judge acknowledged the Supreme Court's ongoing consideration of related matters as a factor in his decision.
The locked area was sealed in May 2022 after a court-mandated survey by the Varanasi civil judge, stemming from claims of a temple beneath the mosque, situated near the Kashi Vishwanath temple. The cloth's condition prompted the petition filed by Hindu representatives to avoid potential complications.
