Surrender of NSCN-K Militant Marks Push for Peace in Arunachal

A member of the banned NSCN-K (Niki Sumi) insurgent group has surrendered, police confirmed on Wednesday. The event took place in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district, following strategic efforts by security forces.
Self-styled Lieutenant Nyamphua Hakhun, 42, from Dadam village, gave up his arms before the police and Assam Rifles at Khonsa on Tuesday. Hakhun was previously affiliated with the NSCN(IM) before shifting to the NSCN-K (Niki Sumi) faction in 2025.
According to Tirap SP Aditya, the surrender is a triumph for ongoing initiatives aimed at guiding disillusioned youth back into society, contributing to enduring peace in the region.
