Tragic Loss: Young Girl Falls Victim to Maoist-Set IED in Jharkhand

In a heart-wrenching incident in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a 10-year-old tribal girl named Siria Herenz lost her life after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by Maoists. The tragic event occurred on Tuesday while she was collecting Sial leaves in the Tilaposi forest. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jaydeep Lakra, the device was intended for security forces but claimed an innocent life instead.
Reports indicate that the girl, a native of Digha village and daughter of Jai Masih Herenz, was out with her friends taking advantage of a school holiday due to the Chhath festivity. Both her legs were severely damaged, and she succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Jeraikela Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amit Kumar stated that the body was recovered with assistance from the CRPF and sent for post mortem.
The police have announced plans to request compensation for the victim's family from the state government. This unfortunate incident highlights the severe risks faced by residents in areas vulnerable to Maoist activities and brings to light the dire need for community safety measures and preventive strategies.
