West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing the party of instilling fear over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) following the alleged suicide of a man in Panihati. The victim reportedly left a note criticizing the NRC.

Panihati resident Pradeep Kar was found hanging at his home on Tuesday, with a suicide note referencing his anxiety over the NRC, according to Barrackpore Police Commissionerate's Muralidhar Sharma. Investigations suggest Kar was depressed after electoral roll revisions were announced.

Banerjee condemned what she described as the BJP's fearmongering tactics, pledging that West Bengal would not implement the NRC. She criticized the political climate that has led citizens to live in fear, driven by what she terms 'venomous propaganda.'
