Karnataka's Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has issued an ultimatum to hospital directors across the state, promising tough departmental action over ongoing issues such as drug shortages, inadequate ICU beds, and poor sanitation in public healthcare facilities.

Addressing these challenges in a departmental review meeting at Vikasa Soudha, Patil highlighted persistent concerns from the Lokayukta and public complaints. He stressed the importance of proactive procurement, urging government hospital heads to initiate tenders three months ahead to prevent drug stock-outs.

In response to ICU shortages, Patil has earmarked an entire floor in the new Victoria Hospital building for additional ICU beds. The minister also demanded full utilization of the AB-ARK claims and emphasized that hygienic conditions are fundamental rights for patients. Delays in meeting civil work deadlines, he noted, would not be tolerated.
