The city of Bhopal is grappling with the aftermath of Diwali celebrations that turned tragic when over 60 individuals, mostly children aged 8 to 14, were hospitalized. The culprit: homemade calcium carbide guns. These gadgets, made with gas lighters, plastic pipes, and calcium carbide, have left several critically injured.

While many victims' lives are not in danger, some have suffered partial blindness and severe facial burns. Bhopal’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Manish Sharma, assured that the injured are receiving appropriate care at various local hospitals, including AIIMS and Hamidia Hospital.

In light of the injuries, public outcry is growing against carbide guns. Families of victims, like Sarikh Khan, demand stringent measures against sellers and manufacturers. Despite previous directives to curb their sale, these hazardous devices flooded the market this festive season.
