A dramatic shootout unfolded in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony as police arrested a 28-year-old man, Bharat, for a Diwali night gunfire incident. The suspect, injured in the leg during the skirmish, was hospitalized for treatment, law enforcement officials have confirmed.
Bharat, also known as Teja and a resident of Taimur Nagar, has a long criminal history, with existing charges like attempted murder and violations of the Arms and Excise Acts. A firearm and ammunition were discovered on him during the arrest, which followed a tip-off about his location.
Reports indicate that officers targeted Bharat near Aastha Kunj Park after receiving information about his presence. A confrontation ensued when Bharat allegedly fired at the police, hitting a bullet-proof vest worn by an officer. Police counterattacked, leading to his capture. Bharat reportedly admitted to using weapons to intimidate locals.
