Crucial Restart at Cardon Refinery After Power Outage

The Cardon refinery, Venezuela's second-largest facility, is resuming operations after a power outage. Workers are restarting both the fluid catalytic cracker and the naphtha reformer. The outage had temporarily reduced crude processing, which typically amounts to about a quarter of their combined capacity with the Amuay refinery.

The fluid catalytic cracker at Venezuela's Cardon refinery, the second largest in the country, is in the process of restarting operations following a power outage last week.

This outage briefly halted operations across the entire refinery, one that boasts a capacity of 310,000 barrels per day. Workers have also commenced work on resuming function at Cardon's naphtha reformer.

Combined with its associated Amuay refinery, current crude processing capacity sits at 237,000 barrels per day, representing about 25% of their total installed capability. Frequent blackouts and outages at PDVSA facilities consistently impede the company's ability to produce fuel for local demands.
