The tragic death of Maharth Raj Singh, an eight-year-old student from Udaipur, has prompted a swift response from the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission. Taking suo motu cognisance, the commission has mandated a comprehensive review of sports infrastructure safety across schools in Rajasthan.

The incident, which took place on April 19, highlighted severe neglect in maintenance procedures at educational institutions. SHRC Chairperson Justice G R Moolchandani described the tragedy as 'deeply painful' and issued firm directives to enhance safety standards, stressing that sports are crucial for student development but negligence cannot be tolerated.

The commission instructed the Rajasthan government's Sports and Youth Affairs Department and district collectors to enforce rigorous inspections and compliance with safety protocols. As the issue awaits further hearing on May 19, authorities are urged to submit exhaustive reports on compliance and safety practices in schools.
