The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has initiated a proactive statewide safety review of sports infrastructure in schools after the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy in Udaipur. The incident occurred when a pole on the school playground fell, causing fatal injuries to the student, Maharth Raj Singh.
SHRC Chairperson Justice G R Moolchandani described the event as 'deeply painful' and stressed the necessity of preventing similar accidents. The commission has underlined the pivotal role of sports in fostering a healthy lifestyle and emphasized that inadequate maintenance of sports facilities poses significant risks.
The commission has directed the Sports and Youth Affairs Department to issue comprehensive guidelines mandating safety inspections across all educational institutions in Rajasthan. It also required district collectors to ensure compliance, stressing the importance of safeguarding students, the country's future, from unnecessary risks during school activities.
