In a significant move to ease congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police, in collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Council, has launched an initiative to improve traffic flow through strategic engineering interventions. This was confirmed by officials following discussions held on Thursday with senior officers proposing measures aimed at decongesting main arterial roads in Lutyens Delhi.
The focus will be on high-footfall zones, where choke points have been identified. Among the priority measures are the installation of central verges on stretches known for wrong-side driving, such as San Martin Marg and Janpath. These interventions are expected to curb erratic driving, reduce gridlocks, and enhance road safety, according to a senior police officer.
Additionally, existing bus stops on SP Marg will be upgraded to dedicated bus bays for smoother traffic flow. Efforts are also being made on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, particularly focusing on areas near Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. Measures include creating lay-by lanes for auto-rickshaws and enforcing strict no-parking rules, especially during peak visitor days, ensuring a congestion-free corridor.
