A Delhi court has dismissed an interim bail plea filed by imprisoned Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, who requested permission to meet his critically ill father. The special judge, Prashant Sharma, denied the plea, which sought temporary relief for Rashid to visit his father, who is currently hospitalized and on a ventilator.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) opposed Rashid's request, arguing that he could visit his father through custody parole, which involves being escorted by armed police personnel. The NIA's objections prevailed in court, resulting in the rejection of the plea.

Engineer Rashid is a Member of Parliament from Baramulla, having defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 elections. He is currently facing trial for allegedly funding separatists and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir. Rashid has been detained in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 2019, following his arrest by the NIA over charges related to a 2017 terror-funding case.
