On Friday, a Delhi court acquitted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti of charges related to a 2014 assault case. Bharti was previously accused of leading a midnight raid at Khirki Extension and assaulting African women.
The acquittal was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal, who stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the case due to inadmissible witness statements. The raid had led to accusations against Bharti, who was then the law minister of Delhi, and 16 others.
The charges originated from allegations of a midnight assault on Ugandan women residing in Malviya Nagar. The court observed that the prosecution's failure to establish an unlawful assembly or prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt, led to the clearance of Bharti.
