In a shocking incident, a doctor and his wife were severely injured during an alleged dacoity at their residence in Morikolong, Nagaon, Assam, early Friday morning. Police revealed that six to seven individuals reportedly entered Ranjit Saikia's house at around 3 am, assaulting him and his wife with iron rods.
Neighbours described a harrowing scene, discovering Saikia's wife, Ruprekha, unconscious with head injuries, while their nine-year-old son remained unharmed. Police suspect the incident to be a case of dacoity, though the underlying motive remains under investigation, with political rivalry considered a potential factor.
A forensic team was deployed, and CCTV footage was collected to aid the investigation. The couple was moved to Guwahati for advanced treatment, where Ruprekha's condition remains critical. Previously, Rs 27 lakh in cash and jewellery were stolen from the same residence months ago, underlining security concerns in the area.
