Atanu Nath: Assam's Rising Star in Fundamental Physics

Assistant Professor Atanu Nath, hailing from Assam, has achieved global recognition by winning the 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, also known as the 'Oscars of Science'. This accolade acknowledges his contribution to the Muon g-2 experiments, alongside 376 fellow researchers, including 11 from India.

Nath, who teaches at Tihu College, expressed immense pride in receiving this award, underscoring the significance of research as a viable career path for young Indians. He urged students to look beyond conventional careers like engineering or medicine and consider scientific research, emphasizing its potential for meaningful societal impact.

Having pursued his academic journey across India and internationally, Nath's dedication to the field stands as a testament to what perseverance can achieve. His work has been publicly lauded by Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who called his achievements a source of inspiration for the youth in the Northeast.
