Karnataka Minister Orders Comprehensive Bus Safety Audit Post-Tragedy

In response to a tragic bus accident in Kurnool, which resulted in 20 fatalities, Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy has mandated the managing directors of four state-run road transport corporations to conduct a thorough safety audit of their vehicles. This directive focuses on reviewing safety systems to prevent future mishaps.

The transport corporations under scrutiny include the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC), and North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC). The minister's message was catalyzed by a similar past incident, emphasizing the need for emergency exits and comprehensive safety measures.

Reddy also highlighted the importance of preventing the transportation of inflammable materials and ensuring no unauthorized resting in luggage compartments. The order calls for strict action against any maintenance or renewal shortcomings and insists on equipping air-conditioned buses with emergency equipment to guarantee passenger safety. Reddy reiterated that human life is invaluable, necessitating immediate safety improvements.
