The IT Ministry has announced new amendments regarding the disclosure of AI-generated content. The proposal now requires that such content must display a continuous and clearly visible label, replacing the previous 'prominent visibility' standard under the IT Rules.

Part of the draft IT rules amendment, the changes also target independent news creators, bringing them under closer scrutiny and compliance requirements. Stakeholders have until May 7, 2026, to provide feedback, extending the initial deadline of April 29, 2026.

The Ministry aims to gather comprehensive feedback by placing these amendments in the public domain for examination. This approach facilitates a broader engagement with stakeholders to address any concerns or suggestions regarding the continuous labeling requirement for synthetically generated content.
