The government is tightening its regulation on AI-generated content, proposing amendments to IT rules that require labels to be continuously visible during content display. This comes as part of an effort to control the misuse of AI in creating deceptive content.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT announced an extension for stakeholder feedback on these proposals, moving the deadline to May 7, 2026. The rules now also aim to include non-publisher users, like influencers, under the same legal framework as registered news publishers.
Social media platforms and civil society groups have raised concerns, describing the approach as ad-hoc. The government, however, remains open to suggestions and insists that the changes fall within the constitutional and regulatory framework.
