The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has identified critical gaps in skill development initiatives managed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. These include instances of multiple candidate registrations with similar demographic details, low placement success, and data validation mismatches. The CAG's report was tabled in Parliament on Thursday.

One major concern highlighted by the report is the low enrolment rate in 'deep-skilling' paid courses under the Future Skills Prime (FSP) program. Furthermore, the lack of industry recognition for certifications has affected participants' motivation, thereby limiting the program's success. The audit covered various initiatives, including the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing sector (ESDM) and skill development of youth in aspirational districts (SDYAD).

The report notes that while ESDM schemes saw significant enrolment and certification numbers, there were shortcomings in ensuring the uniqueness of beneficiaries, especially due to multiple registrations. Delays in assessments and certificate issuance, along with modest placement levels, were also problematic. Additionally, the registration portal's lack of provision for supporting documents led to data validation gaps, reducing the schemes' overall effectiveness.
