Sikkim Unveils State-of-the-Art Indoor Cricket Facility Boosting Northeast Cricket Infrastructure

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Devajit Saikia, visited the new indoor cricket academy at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Mining, Rangpo, on Thursday. The state-of-the-art academy, constructed at a cost of Rs 23 crore, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 28, in tandem with other infrastructure projects in Gangtok.

The facility, housed within the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) ground, features amenities like net practice areas, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool, aiming to elevate cricket training in the region. Saikia emphasized the transition since 2019, where northeastern states, previously non-permanent BCCI members, gained full membership, prompting infrastructure advancements.

Addressing the media, Saikia affirmed the BCCI's commitment to elevating Northeastern cricket on par with established states by fostering development projects. Under the leadership of former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the venture commenced in 2022 to address monsoon disruptions, ensuring seamless training opportunities.
