The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a firm stance against six cricket stadiums across India, including Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, for not revealing the sources of water used in pitch and ground maintenance. These stadiums have been asked to justify their actions or face the halt of their activities.
Previously, the tribunal urged stadiums to utilize treated water from sewage treatment plants instead of freshwater or groundwater and stressed the need for rainwater harvesting systems. Despite multiple directives, many stadiums have yet to respond, prompting the tribunal's latest action.
The directive, issued by a bench led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, reinforces environmental accountability in sports infrastructure management. Further proceedings are scheduled for July 2, as the tribunal awaits compliance with its mandate.
