The Congress party took a strong stance on Thursday, questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence regarding a derogatory term used for India in a social media post shared by US President Donald Trump. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed dismay over Modi's lack of a prompt response, urging him to address the 'intimidation' and 'indignation' felt by 140 crore Indians.
In a post on X, Kharge criticized Modi's apparent fear and inaction, especially as Indians have significantly contributed to America's success. He pointed out past incidents where Modi reportedly compromised India's interests, including the skewed Indo-US Trade deal and high tariffs imposed by the US.
Amidst Modi's election campaign, the Congress hopes for a firm reaction from him. While the US attempted to pacify the situation, affirming India's status as a 'great' country, the controversy stirred by Trump and radio host Michael Savage's comments remains a point of tension between the nations.
