Akshay Sharma from Chandigarh and Gurugram native Dhruv Sheoran emerged as co-leaders at nine-under 135 after the second round of the DP World Players Championship. The event, boasting a Rs 1 crore prize, saw Sharma, a two-time PGTI winner, deliver an impressive seven-under 65, marking the best round of the day.
Sharma's round was highlighted by nine birdies and two bogeys, secured with a closing birdie, while Sheoran managed six birdies and an eagle. Sharma emphasized his strong ball-striking and putting as key to his performance. His decisive stretch began with a birdie on the ninth, extending his momentum with subsequent successful shots.
Sheoran crafted a remarkable eagle on the par-5 14th, thanks to a 330-yard drive and a precise approach. Close contenders for the lead include Taiga Tanaka, Sunit Chowrasia, and Sukra Bahadur Rai, at eight-under 136. Overnight leaders Harman Sachdeva and Jamal Hossain dropped to a tie for sixth place at seven-under 137.
