Injury Sidelines Cesena's Jonathan Klinsmann: Hopes for World Cup Diminish
Jonathan Klinsmann, Cesena's goalkeeper and potential U.S. World Cup squad member, has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to a spine fracture sustained in a Serie B match against Palermo. His absence casts doubt on his World Cup inclusion as he faces a lengthy recovery.
Jonathan Klinsmann, goalkeeper for the Italian club Cesena, finds himself unable to play for the remainder of the season due to a fractured spine incurred during Saturday's Serie B match against Palermo. This unfortunate setback jeopardizes his chances of joining the U.S. squad for the upcoming World Cup.
The 29-year-old American, and son of German World Cup legend Juergen Klinsmann, disclosed the gravity of his injury through a social media post, acknowledging the long recovery ahead. Klinsmann's performance in Italy had recently sparked hopes of his addition to the U.S. team.
Cesena currently holds the eighth position in Serie B, trailing after a 2-0 loss to Palermo. Klinsmann, uncapped despite national team call-ups, ascended through the U.S. youth system during his father's coaching tenure. The U.S. faces Paraguay in their World Cup opener on June 12.
