In a significant move to promote academic empowerment, Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur, has unveiled a Rs 76.07 crore budget for the 2026-27 financial year. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized its role in holistic student development. The decision followed detailed discussions in a Finance Committee meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Abhishek Jain and received unanimous approval from the University's Board of Directors.
Vice-Chancellor Jain announced the imminent launch of PhD programs on campus and across affiliated institutions, reflecting a progressive vision balancing education, research, skill development, and entrepreneurship. Notably, a dedicated Rs 3 crore allocation focuses on modern laboratories and technical infrastructure, while Rs 1 crore is set aside for books and research journals, demonstrating a commitment to quality education.
The budget also sees a significant increase for student-oriented activities, including enhanced resources for sports, culture, and entrepreneurship programs. A greater focus is placed on equipping students with skills for innovation and self-reliance, with allocations for industrial training and student clubs. The university aims to nurture job creators rather than just job seekers.
