Punjab Kings' head coach Ricky Ponting has dismissed any concerns over a rough patch for Arshdeep Singh, celebrating the bowler's work ethic after he led the team to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians. The left-arm pacer's outstanding performance saw him dismiss key players like Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav early on, before removing Sherfane Rutherford in the death overs.
Initially wicket-less in his first three IPL matches this season, Arshdeep rebounded strongly with figures of 2/50 and 3/22 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, respectively. Ponting, speaking during the 'Dressing Room Diaries', expressed confidence in Singh's abilities, emphasizing the importance of his aggressive start and finish to the game.
In addition to lauding Arshdeep, Ponting also acknowledged the middle-over contributions of Shashank Singh, which helped turn the game in Punjab's favor. The Kings chased down a 196-run target in 16.3 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh's unbeaten 80 and captain Shreyas Iyer's dynamic 66 playing crucial roles. Currently leading the IPL standings, the Punjab Kings are eyeing their first IPL title.
