Mumbai Indians (MI) found themselves on the losing end once again in the IPL 2026, falling to Punjab Kings by seven wickets in a match that underscored their ongoing struggles. This marked the team's fourth consecutive defeat in the league, escalating concerns over their performance.
In the post-match press conference, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene emphasized that the responsibility for the team's poor form rests on everyone involved, not just one individual. "I think it's on every one of us when we are not doing well," he remarked, highlighting the need for a unified effort to improve.
Despite commendable individual performances, such as Quinton de Kock's unbeaten 112, MI couldn't capitalize on their opportunities, as the PBKS chased the target down in 16.3 overs. Meanwhile, Jayawardene provided insights on Rohit Sharma's hamstring issue, mentioning that while the injury isn't serious, they are cautious about his return to ensure full recovery.
