In a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused opposition parties of hindering the Women's Reservation Bill and efforts to increase SC/ST seats. Shah countered allegations of a 'hidden agenda' by defending the delimitation exercise, which aims to rationalize the distribution of voters in constituencies.
Shah also criticized the Congress, claiming the party had previously stalled delimitation during its term, while emphasizing the necessity of current efforts to ensure equitable representation and implement the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' post-2026 census.
Highlighting disparities in voter representation, Shah noted the imbalance, with some constituencies having vastly different voter-representative ratios. He urged the opposition to support the amendment, asserting that women are closely observing the process and potential roadblocks to progress.
