Daring Escape: Bangladeshi Woman Flees Custody in India

A Bangladeshi woman has made a dramatic escape from police custody in India, officials reported on Friday. The woman, Meerjan Begam Ismail Sheikh, was held alongside other Bangladeshi nationals at a police quarters in Kurla.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, Sheikh asked a woman constable on duty for permission to use the washroom. Granted access, she took the opportunity to flee. A search was initiated when she failed to return promptly, but she could not be located. Surveillance footage later revealed that she had escaped with the help of her husband, Manish Baldev Rajbhar alias Ismail Sheikh.
Authorities have since registered a case against the couple under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for fleeing from custody and for aiding the escape. Police efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the pair.
