On Thursday, New Delhi experienced its hottest day of the year with blistering temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung, the city's base station, recorded a high of 41.7 degrees, marking a prominent spike of 4 degrees above the average.
The capital wasn't alone in its discomfort as other areas like Ridge reached 43 degrees Celsius, while Palam, Lodhi Road, and Ayanagar also reported unusual highs over 41 degrees. Nighttime did not offer much consolation, with minimum temperatures still hovering at uncomfortable levels.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has yet to declare a heatwave, as specific criteria must be met across multiple stations. However, heatwave conditions are anticipated in the coming days, although meteorologists predict some relief early next week with potential thunderstorms and cloudy conditions.
