The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Wednesday about potential heatwave conditions affecting south Bengal until April 25. Meanwhile, parts of north Bengal are likely to witness thunderstorms during the same period.
The IMD forecast indicates that due to dry westerly and north-westerly winds along with seasonal solar heating, south Bengal will experience abnormally high temperatures. The district of Panagarh in Paschim Bardhaman recorded a maximum day temperature of 43.8°C, significantly above normal levels.
Other regions, including Bankura, Asansol, and Purulia, also recorded high temperatures exceeding 42°C. Discomforting weather accompanied by high humidity levels is expected to persist in coastal and interior regions. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are anticipated in sub-Himalayan districts.
