Mega Seizures in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu Elections
The Election Commission reported that election-related seizures in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have surpassed Rs 1000 crore. Since activating the Election Seizure Management System in February, authorities have confiscated Rs 1072.13 crore in cash, liquor, drugs, and various valuables, including gold and silver.

The Election Commission has announced that poll-connected seizures in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have exceeded the Rs 1000 crore threshold. These seizures encompass cash, drugs, and liquor intended to entice voters.
Since the Election Seizure Management System was launched on February 26, enforcement authorities have uncovered freebies and allurements totalling Rs 1072.13 crore in these two states.
Tamil Nadu is set to vote on Thursday in a singular phase, with West Bengal's first phase occurring simultaneously and the second phase scheduled for April 29. The confiscated items include Rs 127.67 crore in cash, nearly 41,000 liters of liquor valued at Rs 106.3 crore, drugs estimated at Rs 184 crore, alongside precious metals worth Rs 215 crore. The Election Commission further highlighted the seizure of gratis inducements worth Rs 418 crore.
